A paralegal works directly with an attorney, performing their work for the attorney but cannot work directly with the public as a paralegal. The Business and Professions Code Section 6450 redefines the role of a paralegal and governs the business of a Legal Document Assistant.
Legal Document Assistant (LDA)
A Legal Document Assistant is qualified by education and training and works directly with self represented litigants. In California a Legal Document Assistant is required to be licensed and bonded.
